How-To-Do Tricks

I am NOT responsible for anything that happens to you while attempting these tricks.

Beginner:

BunnyHop-To bunnyhop, bend your knees, and then spring up, pulling up on the front with your arms. Once your front wheel is off, unweight the back end and push the bike forward some. The stronger you are, the higher you'll go.
One-Footer- Start by just taking your foot off a little bit, until you feel comfortable, the stretch it farther and farther. You need to be taking off the foot that you ride forward, and don't be afraid when the crank arm on that side shoots up.
Tabletop- Start by turning the bars a little bit and pushing the bike to the side. Every time do it more and more. The key is to get your knees bent and your body thrown into it.
Lookdown- To do a lookdown, you are supposed to turn your body around the front of the bike, while keeping your feet on the pedals. An easy way to do it is to start with a kickout. Push the bike to one side with your feet, and pull the bike towards you with your arms. The backend of the bike should go to one side. Now turn your bars so you are looking down the top tube toward the seat. Eventually you will be able to tip the bike up.
Pencil- Pencils look kind of gay, I don't really understand why people do them, but hey, it's a trick. All I can say is hump the handlebars. I really don't get it.

Double Peg Grind- To do a double peg grind in a pool, you just ride up the side, turn like you normally would, but set your pegs on the lip. You need a lot of speed to do it in a concrete bowl. On a mini/half pipe, you do the same thing, just with less speed. On a rail, you have to find the balance point.

Intermediate:

Feeble Grind- Bunnyhop and land with your front wheel and back peg on the rail or wall. Having the front wheel allows you to steer better, because there is less friction than two steel pegs on concrete. To get off, simply lean out of it.
Smith Grind- Back tire and front peg on the coulping or rail.
Fufanu/Tiretap- Come out of the bowl/mini/half pipe, and grab the brakes. I you want a fufanu, land back tire only on the lip at about 90, and drop back in. If you want a tail tap, 180 out, land back tire only, roll forward some, and then drop back in. Make sure your brakes lock before you try this.

One-Hander- This trick is pretty self-explanatory...just take your hand off. To get used to it, just loosen your grip, a little more each time. Do this when you are almost at the peak of your air time. After a while you will get the feel for it and be able to throw your hand way off!
X-Up- Start by turning the bars until you hit your knees. This is the biggest problem with an X-Up, knees and bars get tangled up. Once you have enough air-time, focus on leaning back and then start twisting. Twisting the bars three quarters of the way around is called a helicopter.
One-Footed X-Up- It may be easier to learn a one-footed X-up first...because the knee is no longer there. Take the foot off as soon as you are above the lip, then spin out the X-up. Be ready to bail if you get unsteady. Untangle the bars and put you foot back on the pedal before the landing appears.
Can-Can- Once you have the one-footer down, start lifting the foot and setting it on the top tube of the bike, then push it over the bar a little more every time. Eventually you will be able to push the bike to the side when you have the foot over for a better effect.
No-Footer- The more hang time the better for this trick. The common problem when people do no-footers is either pulling the feet up instead of kicking out, or slipping a pedal when you bring them back in. Just kick out to both sides. For the first time, a cup is recommended.
Frame Grab- Pinch and reach for your frame. If you do double frame grabs, your front end should drop some. Be careful not to push down too much when you do them, because it can cause you to wreck.
No-Hander- Pinching the seat is the key here. Just like in an X-up, kick your legs back. Then squeeze your knees together when you feel the seat. The front end will drop VERY quickly if you do not pinch the seat. Once you can pinch, start to loosen your grip with both hands. Soon you will be able to throw your hands around. Another way to do a no-hander is to throw the bars down into your lap and reach for the sky. This is easier because you don't have to pinch.
Toboggan- To do a toboggan, get the one hander and the x-up pretty good. On a jump with medium hang time, kick your knees back, take one hand off, and quickly turn the bars half way. You should feel the front end dropping. If you have enough time, let it dip for a second, then pull it all back up.
Bus Driver- Pinch the seat, get weigthless, take one hand away, and sweep the bars around in a circle with the other. Grab on and land.
Barspin- Kick your knees back and pinch the seat, then throw the bars with one hand and put your other hand out to catch them. It is easiest to learn barspins either on a small double with a soft landing, or on a single/ditch jump.
360- It is best to learn 360's on singles, then to small doubles, etc. Doing 180 bunnyhops on flat surfaces would help also. On the way up the lip, turn your body opposite the way you will spin. Then, all at once, throw your head, upper body, and legs the other way. The key is throwing your head, it sets everything in motion.

Advanced:

No-Footed Can-Can- The easiest way to do this trick is to hop off the pedals and kick out off to the side as hard as you can. Look down when you are looking for the pedals, and bring your foot back over the bar, and put it on the pedal. The other foot should be easy.
No-Footed X-Up- The biggest problem with this is the back-end floating all over the place. This prevents you from putting your feet back on the pedals.
Can-Can X-Up- To do a can-can x-up you have to be able to stretch can-cans out to the side, and you may have to x-up in the opposite direction. After you do a can-can, start turning the bars. Do it a little more every time, and eventually you should have it.
One-Handed X-Up- The key behind a one-handed X-up is, pinching the seat. Once picnhing, throw one hand back, and turn the bars with the free hand. Try this on a soft double until you feel comfortable pulling them. The two common mistakes are following the bars with your free hand, which looks funny, and getting the bars stuck when your arm is all twisted around backwards. If this happens, bail immediately, you can easily break an arm.
Candy Bars- Get one-footers wired, then kick your foot up onto your bars. Start pushing it further, and eventually start pulling up on the handle bars until it looks good. Get your foot back before you land!
Superman- A superman is lke a strectched out no footer. Once you have both feet off, push the bike forward with your arms.
Superman Seatgrab- Throw your feet down, grab the seat and push the bike up and away. Pull it back and land. This trick is sometimes easier because you can pull the bike back with your hand instead of wrestling with the bars.

540- 540 is one and a half spin.Come out of the vert, turn your body opposite the way you will spin. Then, all at once, throw your head, upper body, and legs the other way. The key is throwing your head, it sets everything in motion.

Rocket Air- After coming off of the lip, hop back onto the pegs. This may seem easy, but trust me, it's not. Give it a try... but be ready to throw the bike away.
Suicide- A suicide is just a stretched no hander. Start out with a pinch, and throw your arms up and back. If you get it stretched enough, you should bend your knees some and let the front end of the bike drop forward some. Lean back with your upper body when you do that. You need a tight pinch to stretch it that far, though. Another type of suicide is when you throw your arms down and back.
Suicide Clapper- A suicide clapper is a suicide where you put your hands behind you and clap. Don't land early or you will be missing more than a few teeth.
Tailwhip- You need tons of air here. Once you come off the lip, drop your front foot behind the bike and kick/push/move the back end in that direction. Swing the bike the rest of the way with your arms. To catch the bike, pick your back foot way up to miss the top tube, and drop your front foot. Watch the pedals and time it just right.
Double Barspin- Throw the bars, watch them go around once, then catch them the second time around.
720- A 720 is two full rotations, two 360s.
Backflip- When you reach the top of the lip, pull up hard and throw your body back. Flip with your legs too, and look where you want to go the whole time. If you have to bail when you are upside down, make sure you flip back over before you hit the ground.
Flair- I really don't know how to explain a flair, just flip and try to spin 180 degrees and roll out.

InSaNe:

FrontFlip- When you are approaching the top of the lip, throw all of your body weight forward and down. Once you are inverted, throw your legs back to where they should be and pray.
Triple Barspin- Spin the bars three times in a row.
Triple Truck Driver- Gotta hand it to Nyquist again, the only one to land it. He does a full rotation while spinning the bars one way, then the other way, then the other way. Crazy.
Backflip Barspin- While in a loop, kick back, pinch and spin the bars. That's about all I can tell you.
